Dr. Kaela Shaw
DVM, MSc, DACVECC

Critical Care Specialist

Dr. Kaela Shaw is a Critical Care specialist working in the Greater Toronto Area. She pursued a residency in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care at the Ontario Veterinary College, which she completed in parallel with a Master of Science (MSc) graduate degree. Her research focus is biomarkers of the endothelial glycocalyx in sepsis and the effects of intravenous fluid therapy on the glycocalyx. Dr. Shaw became a board-certified diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2021.

Fluid therapy, sepsis, transfusion medicine, mechanical ventilation, acute kidney injury

Dr. Christopher Drolet
DVM, MSc, DACVECC

Critical Care Specialist

Dr. Christopher Drolet is a small animal emergency & critical care specialist. He developed a keen interest in trauma & emergency medicine while working in different wildlife rehabilitation hospitals during his DVM training, which lead him to leave his home province of Quebec in 2017 and move to Vancouver to complete an emergency & critical care internship. Drawn to the challenges & the case variety of emergency & critical care medicine, he moved to Guelph in 2018 to complete his residency at the Ontario Veterinary College. Missing the Pacific North West, he returned to Vancouver in 2021 to settle with his partner & their rambunctious chihuahua-cross River. Dr. Drolet currently works in a private practice referral hospital in Vancouver, BC. He is passionate about critical care medicine, and particularly enjoys the challenges of managing patients with shock or traumatic injuries, metabolic emergencies, respiratory distress and sepsis. He also welcomes any opportunity to grow his skills in point-of-care ultrasound and mechanical ventilation. Outside of the ICU, Dr. Chris can be found hiking, camping or tending to his garden, and in the coming years, he plans to continue working on his sewing, baking & surfing skills.

Dr. Drolet appreciates the stress & challenges that can come with working in the field of emergency & critical care, and is looking forward to providing guidance to help you, and support your patients through their crisis.

Dr. Sabrina Ayoub
DVM, DACVECC

Critical Care Specialist

Dr. Sabrina Ayoub is a small animal Emergency & Critical Care specialist working in Montreal, Quebec. Dr. Ayoub graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal, in 2018 and subsequently completed a small animal rotating internship at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, in 2019. She then returned to her home city of Montreal and worked as an emergency veterinarian until 2021. Driven by the constant challenge brought by the great diversity and complexity of cases in emergency & critical care medicine, she returned to the Ontario Veterinary College to pursue an Emergency & Critical Care residency in 2021. She became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care in 2024.

Special Interests:
Respiratory emergencies, mechanical ventilation, management of shock and sepsis, traumatology, fluid therapy and electrolyte disturbances
